Lawrence M. House was born in May of 1965 in Moose Factory,Ontario, and the seventh child of the late Daniel House of Fort George,Quebec and the Florence Gull of Waswanipi,Quebec. His roots lie deep in the Cree Nation of James Bay of northern Quebec in Canada. Larry, as he is more commonly known, descends from a wealth of Cree knowledge and ancestors who had a great respect for the land. He was born in the first generation of children who were born in the first hospitals in the region. His parents were born out on the land, where their people lived, as did their people before them. Therefore, Larry is close to the resources needed to learn and understand the unwritten laws of respecting mother earth. Larry is non-comformist by nature, when he sees injustice or something that is not right, he will set out to initiate what he calls "cognitive turmoil" in those concerned. In general, whereever there was conflict with nature by humans, you could probably find Larry somewhere in the middle of the debate using his insights to unearth the best solution. His life is not an easy one, he faces daily challenges, but Larry is a fighter and he is always up for the challenge. Larry and his wife Velma have 3 children and 5 grandchildren and they live in Chisasibi. These days Larry has more reason to right the wrongs, He feels he must leave this legacy to his grandchildren and the future generations. We can, perhaps, all learn something from Larry. |
