At this gathering we will:
  • Share our experiences in working on the environment in congregations
  • Explore local and regional environmental issues and learn how we can address them
  • Network with other people of faith who care about our planet
  • Celebrate the good works that support justice and healing in the world
  • Build a new community working together to help protect the natural environment, preserve biodiversity, and affirm human rights

Workshop topics include:

  • Protecting our children and ourselves from illness caused by toxins
  • Genetically engineered food: dishing up trouble
  • How to reduce pollution from your buildings and homes: energy stewardship approaches for congregations and their members
  • Working for environmental justice in urban Boston
  • Stewardship and justice concerns for congregations as land-owners
  • Local approaches to addressing global warming
  • Using sacred Hebrew texts to understand earth stewardship

Keynote Speaker:

The Rt. Rev. Steven Charleston is President and Dean of Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. A citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Bishop Charleston was born and raised in that state in a family that has had a long history of service in the Christian Native American community. 

His vocation in the church has been extensive and varied. Bishop Charleston became diocesan bishop of Alaska and served in this capacity for many years before returning to New England to become chaplain of Trinity College in Hartford. He also served as the Assistant Bishop of Connecticut.
